Why Can't I See Me? - A poem about relationships and low self esteem
I look at her
From head to toe.
From her ashy dry hair,
To her carbuncled toes.
I turn up my nose.
I shook my head.
'How on earth can she stand herself.'
That made me smile.
'She can't,' I thought,
She detests the sight of her.
She hates that her hair can't be tamed.
That her eyes are slightly crossed.
That her ears troop off the sides of her head.
And her nose!
Oh, that nose.
No words will do it justice.
Hairs on her chin.
She dislikes her man-like shoulders,
And her sinewy arms that dangle there.
Her flat chest.
Her disappearing hips.
She turns around to check her back;
Can't find her derriere.
Hairy legs,
Sticking up from over-sized feet.
And wonders,
She wonders what she's doing right.
He loves her long blond hair.
He loves her bright hazel eyes.
The long elegant curving of her ears.
And her nose!
Oh that majestic pedestal upon her face.
The dimple in her chin.
Around her broad shoulders,
He loves to wrap his arms.
Her mighty arms that helps and heals.
Her chest, bearing the most pleasant of hearts.
Her hips that housed his child.
He smiles as she spins around to look
At her perfectly shaped cheeks.
He adores her beautifully shaped legs
And the purposeful stride of her walk.
And wonders,
He wonders what he's doing wrong.
I look at the woman in the mirror.
She stares right back at me.
What did I do to deserve
Someone who loves me as much as he.
